Role: Water Margin Analyst

Location: Barnsley, S75 1JN (Hybrid)

Salary: circa £40,000 (depending on experience)

Role Type: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (min. 2 office days per week)

The Water Margin Analyst will support the effective management of water and wastewater billing and consumption data. In this role, you'll be responsible for assuring data accuracy, delivering insightful analysis and producing reports that contribute to financial control, operational efficiency and strategic decision-making. You'll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to identify cost-saving opportunities, ensure invoices are paid at the lowest cost, improve data quality and drive continuous improvement. As a senior member of the team, you'll also provide specialist support across assurance activities, acting as an SME for the team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Ensuring the accuracy of water and wastewater charges and electricity billing, consumption and tariff data
  • Investigating data discrepancies, invoice queries and consumption anomalies, working with stakeholders to achieve timely resolutions
  • Turning complex data into meaningful insights that support business performance and decision-making
  • Producing reports, forecasts and dashboards for operational, commercial and finance stakeholders
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce costs, recover revenue and improve data quality
  • Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and stakeholders to support assurance, compliance and performance objectives
  •  Providing ad-hoc support across Assurance activities and deputising for the Water Margin Manager as required

What You’ll Bring:

  • Intermediate/Advanced MS Excel skills with strong data analysis ability, with experience of working with large and complex datasets.
  • Working knowledge of reporting tools such as Power Bi, SQL or similar would be advantageous
  • Ability to translate data into meaningful insights, reports, forecasts and performance metrics and inform decision making
  • Proven track record of identifying process improvements and implementing practical solutions
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of how data impacts business performance and decision-making
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across customers, suppliers and internal teams
  • A background in either the water industry or financial sector would be advantageous

Due to the nature of sites on which we operate, the successful candidate must meet the UK BPSS Security Vetting requirements for the role which includes a full background check.
